Safeguarding a woman’s
choice of where, how and with whom she intends to birth protects
her rights to bodily integrity and self-determination: I
see midwifery as basic human rights work at a very local
level. My intention is to work alongside women who choose
the responsibility of birthing at home in the center of their
families, honoring and supporting this healthy, intimate,
sacred process. In a healthy woman with a normal pregnancy,
birth need not be a medical event. Rather, birth is strong
work: commonplace, miraculous, challenging and important. |
